When improving your property you need to be aware of what types of improvements require a licensed inspector certified under the State of Illinois, and when it is not necessary. The Village has two types of permit categories, these are supported by the Village Ordinances.
Roofing, decks, porches, new construction, additions, sheds, plumbing, electrical, pools w/electrical components, detached garages, and solar panels are just a few examples of projects that WILL require a Licensed Permit.
When requesting a permit you will need to include in your submission of intent, plans, contractor with proof of insurance and time frame. Permits are good for 1 year. Inspections need to be done before, during, and after completion of project. These dates will be determined with you BEFORE permit is issued.
If a permit is not issued and work has been started, a "STOP WORK ORDER" will be issued by our permit partner, B&F Construction Permit Services, Inc. and ALL work will haunt.
Fences, chicken coops, window replacements, these projects may or may not have an application needed to inform the village of project being done. This is to make sure that general rules are being met.
There are certain specifications that need to be met and inspected by the village board for approval. For example for a chicken coops, there is an application, initial fee, and yearly newel fee. Another instance are fences, an application form needs to b e completed and checked off to make sure Ordinance rules are being followed. There is a checklist to help you understand what requirements should be met.
